4TH NILPAR TO NANI KHAKHAR (GUJARAT) SHODHYATRA - REPORT

The Forth shodh yatra took place from December 26, 1999 to January 2, 2000 from Neelpar to Nani Khakhar in Kutch. Around 150 people participated in the Shodh Yatra on the coarse land of Kutch and they got an opportunity to meet creative farmers.
Purpose and Area of Shodh Yatra

THE PURPOSE OF THE YATRA WAS TO KNOW

the inborn talents of the people of coarse land of Kutch,
about the variety of vegetation of forest like region,
the problems of people in this difficult area and their ability to fight back,
to honour local innovative farmers, children, women, animal breeders and Maldharis,

to understand the life style of people in relation to the nature,
animals living with saline water, short supply of water,
the solution found by local people to live in extreme cold

BEGINNING OF THE SHODHYATRA

On 26th Dec. 1999, the first meeting of Shodh Yatra was held at “Gram Swaraj Sewa Sangh”, Neelpar. The Shodh Yatra was joined by 20 farmers of SRISTI Parivar, 26 workers of SRISTI as well as 5 members of government and other self employed organisations, making a total of 51 members.

Shri. Dineshbhai Sanghavi, organiser of Sarvodaya activities, in his welcome speech said that, “SRISTI has come to our courtyard and would built a wall to stop the wealth of knowledge from getting washed off. Today, in the whole world, while, modern management and technology are being implemented, destruction of the nature also continues hand in hand. There is a big hand of man in disrupting the chain of nature. God has given maximum intelligence to human and thus to recreate the nature is also is in our hands. SRISTI is doing the work of combining Loksarvani and Honey-Bee network activities with each other.

I welcome this institution with great happiness”. Shri. Nakulbhai Bhavsar also appreciated SRISTI Shodh Yatra and talking about the activities of SRISTI said that, SRISTI is doing the work of passing the solutions to the problems of people struggling to slove their own problems to other people”. Dilipbhai Koradiya addressing all guests and villagers gave an introduction of Shodh Yatra and SRISTI ShodhSankal.

Head of Neelpar Ashramshala, Shri. Rameshbhai. Sanghvi said that “inventors who have invented extraordinary things have given a new turn to our lives. Thus research is the foundation of our lives. And SRISTI gives encouragement to such researchers. Thus such organisation presence in search of talented people from Kutch, is a matter of pride for us”.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SHODHYATRA

During the Shodh Yatra, a meeting was held everyday after lunch and dinner. In such meetings veterinary problems, environmental indicators, local folks songs and new researches were discussed. Innovative farmers of SRISTI Parivar discussed about their discoveries.

Shri. Bhanjibhai talked about his tractor, Sajanbhai about his rain forecast, Gafarbhai about his Nursery, Badribhai and Gamalsingh about organic farming and natural pesticides, Adityabhai about medicinal plants and Khimjibhai and his household discoveries. Bhimshibhai, Vallabhbhai and other farmer friends exchanged their experiences about farming.

Experts of organic farming, Shri. Prakash Tulpule was present for the last two days of this Shodh Yatra and talked about his experiences. Shri. Dabhi of “Gram Technology Sanstha” and two other workers also exchanged their experiences.

In each and every village, exhibitions were held to give information about the activities of Loksarvani through SRISTI literature. Moreover, using modern equipments like computer and overhead projector, information about extraordinary inventions was also provided.

During the duration of the Shodh Yatra, the works of creative farmers, veterinary doctors, women ingenuity and their experiences were coordinated and documented

BIODIVERSITY COMPETITION

During the complete Shodh Yatra, biodiversity competitions were organised in 11 schools, in which a total of 424 children participated. Total 36 winners were honored by giving them certificates.

EMBROIDERY COMPETITION

Embroidery competition of famous Kutchi work was held in total 9 villages.

HONOURING THE RESEARCHERS

During Shodh Yatra total 56 researchers were honored, which includes: veterinary doctors, manufacturer of household and farming tools, botanical experts, soil prevention expert, cloth designer, Knife makers, repairer of submersible pumps as well as inventor of new techniques in farming.

AFTERNOON AND NIGHT MEETINGS

Afternoon and Night meetings were conducted at Neelpar, Jadasa, Kanthkot, Lakhavat, Bandhani, Dhamakda Kotada, Khokhara, Ningadchandiya, Vaghura, Bangada, Bhorara, Bhujpur and Moti Khakhar villages during the Shodh Yatra.

CONCLUSION

On 2nd Jan. 2000, the Shodh Yatra was concluded at Moti Khakhar village, due to the death of a leader of Nani Khakhar village. All researcher friends gave suggestions to improve the facilities during the complete Shodh Yatra.

The shodhyatries said Goodbye to each other with great affection and planned to conduct the next Shodh Yatra at Panchmahal, Sabarkantha extending the yatra with the aim to the borders of Rajasthan.
