Innovative Vermi Compost Technique Mrs. Anthoniammal is using vermi compost trough to the size of 6x3x1.75 ft She constructed 13 throughs in this manner. She is putting organic waste (partially composed) in the trough. Worms are released into the trough. Vermi compost will be ready in 4 weeks time. In the upper area of trough she is placing bricks over th organic waste at I" interval. This will help the worms to come above the bricks and drop their castings. This technique will help the labourers fr easy removal of earthworms without any harm or damage to earthworms. By seeing this method more than 300 farmers have been following this simple innovation and they are benefited in a larger way. In the earlier days she has been selling her compost to the farmers by door delivery on house basis. Slowly she increased her production capacity to 8 quintals per month. Now she asked her son to do selling the compost. It picked up. His son takes this compost and as well as organically grown vegetables to the farmers market (Ulavar Sandhai) Now a days the capacity is 3 tonnes per month. She is selling Rs.10 per kg of compost. She is also using this for her own field to grow organically all the crops. Dissemination of Organic Farming She is one of the active women and having leadership qualities, which facilitated her to disseminate organic farming methods to others farmers in nearby villages. Now she is charging Rs.150-500 from outsiders to give training on organic compost development. Now she is planning to sell all vegetables and agricultural produce (organically grown in her own field) directly to consumers in the farmers market (Ulavar Sandhai).
