A kerosene hand lamp with chimney and as such without any modification it can be used for repelling mosquitoes. An old blade is placed on the chimney of the lighted lamp. On which freshly peeled orange skin is placed. The heat developed on the metal blade will scotch the orange skin and the volatile essential oil present on it will be vapourised and spread in the vicinity of the area. Normally the mosquitoes will not tolerate this odour of orange skin nor adjust to this odour. This odour will make mosquitoes fly from one place to another and never alight on the body of human. Unlike bed bugs, there is no possibility of developing tolerance by mosquitoes and accustomed to this odour. During the supply season when oranges are available in plenty in the market freshly peeled skins can be ground well, made into pellets, shade dried well. preserved for future use. Otherwise we can get orange essence from market, soak bits of card boards with few drops and could be used in a similar way with kerosene lamp with chimney for repelling mosquitoes.
